Fenbendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic with high anthelmintic activity not only against adult gastrointestinal nematodes and larvae, but also against reticulate nematodes, lamellipeds and cestodes, as well as having a strong ovicidal effect.
Sheep: Highly effective against adults and larvae of Haemonchus contortus, Oestreicher’s nematode, Woolly round nematode, Cooper’s nematode, Fine neck nematode, Rangostoma nematode, Chabert’s nematode, Esophageal mouth nematode, Hairy head nematode and Reticulata nematode. It is effective against Moniezia extensionis and Moniezia baekelii. High doses are required for trematodes, e.g. 20mg/kg for 5 days is 100% effective against spear-shaped, double-chambered trematodes; 15mg/kg for 6 days is highly effective against liver flukes.
Cattle: The deworming spectrum for cattle is similar to that of sheep, but higher doses are needed for trematodes, e.g. 7.5-10mg/kg for 6 days, with good results for adult liver flukes and child flukes. Horses: It has good effect on adult and larvae of equine parascaris, equine sharp-tailed nematode, placental Przewalski’s nematode, Chemicalbook common round nematode, toothless round nematode, equine round nematode and small round nematode.
Pigs: Good anthelmintic effect against adult and larvae of Ascaris lumbricoides, red pig roundworms and oesophageal nematodes. It also has a significant killing effect on crown-tail nematodes when used at 3mg/kg for 3 days.
Dogs and cats: 25mg/kg in dogs is effective against hookworms, hairy nematodes and roundworms. 50mg/kg for 14 days can kill the larvae of roundworms in migrating dogs; 3 days in a row can almost eliminate tapeworms. In cats, a treatment dose for 3 days is highly effective against feline roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms.
Wildlife: 5mg/kg for 3-5 days in deer infected with Oestes nematodes, Gubbels nematodes, fine neck nematodes, hairy round nematodes, hairy head nematodes and lungworm has good effect, in addition to Moniezia tapeworm. It is also effective against Moniezia tapeworm. It is effective against all kinds of carnivorous raptors seriously infected with Avian Ascaris, Saw-worm, Trichuris and trematode at a dose of 25mg/kg for 3 days.
